Mission
Monkeybear’s Harmolodic Workshop supports Native, Black, IPOC in developing creative and technical skills in contemporary puppetry. Through workshops and developmental programs, we create opportunities for artists to create their first works of puppetry and develop further in the form. Our Programming
Monkeybear Workshops: Free 1-2 day trainings and free weeklong Intensive on fundamentals of puppet performance in numerous styles of puppetry.
New Puppetworks: A program to create short puppet theater pieces, for people that took our Intensive. Participants get a stipend, mentorship, funds for a sound designer, access to Monkeybear studio, culminating show, and photo/video documentation of their work.
Puppet Cinema: A program to create short puppet films for people that have been through New Puppetworks. Participants get a stipend, filmmaking workshops, access to Monkeybear studio and filmmaking equipment, mentorship, funds for a sound designer and a culminating film screening.
Open Studio Work Sessions: informal opportunities for alumni and current cohorts to work on projects in the company of our community.
